January Favorites

If you are at all interested in what I find interesting, please keep reading!

I cannot believe it is already the end of January, but I am looking forward to February so I guess part of me was waiting for it to be over. Though this may not be of interest to anyone, I felt I would share some of my ‘favorites’ from the month.

Favorite activity: seeing the KAWS exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

Though this exhibit ended last weekend, I think this museum is pretty interesting and worth checking out. There is a ton of space inside for cool pictures and there is a lot of parking. The design in the building, as linked above in my previous post, is also really cool! Not to mention, the museum offers a student discount and is half off on Wednesdays. I am interested to see what exhibitions will be on this year.

Favorite outing: drinks at The Cedars Social

The Bee’s Knees (left) and Pimm’s Cup No. 1 (right)

dsc03684I went here with my friend Ilse to celebrate her completion of flight attendant training. Besides the fact that free parking is a huge plus for me, especially as you ease into downtown, it is such a cool atmosphere. It definitely has more of a lounge feel than a bar. We went on a Monday night so obviously there were not many people there, but the drinks were great and I would love to see how it is on weekends. Will definitely be returning.

Favorite book: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

I have had this book for a while, but I finally finished this one and it brought me so many laughs. I purchased this after finishing The Mindy Project and if you are a fan of Kelly Kapoor on The Office, you will love her show and this book. Needless to say, Mindy Kaling just knows herself really well and immediately shows that she has no interest in changing a fraction of that for anyone or anything. Such a fun read!

Favorite TV show: The Office (U.S.)
Let me preface this by saying this is not my first time seeing The Office. I actually watched the first season a couple of times throughout college, but it never stuck with me. I think it had to do with the type of people I associated this show, but at the time, it just did not fit. After recently finishing Parks and Recreation, I decided I was not ready to go back to dramas just yet (sans TGIT, of course) so I started this series and boy, am I glad I did. Every episode has me in tears from laughter or sadness for Michael Scott. Seriously, every episode. This is a genius cast and I completely understand why this was such a huge hit. I will definitely have to check out the original U.K. series when I finish this one.

Favorite movie: The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
For some reason, I did not go to the movies at all this month. I wanted to see so many films, but I never got around to them. I did have a little movie night with my mom though and we watched The Man from U.N.C.L.E. I saw this months back, but I forgot how amazing it was: action-packed, talented and beautiful cast, and scenery and costuming to die for. For those who do not know, this film was based on a T.V. comedy-action series in the 60s about an American and Russian spy working together. If you like James Bond films, you will like this one.

Favorite purchase: half moon choker
fullsizerender-1I feel like attitudes toward the return of the choker in the last year are either you absolutely love it, or you do not care about it at all. I, however, love it and have more or less started a collection. I have found that I really like the dainty ones like this one because they really elongate the neck which, for me, really elevates a look. Dainty ones are also much easier to throw on with less casual outfits because they do not draw as much attention as some of the wild ones I have seen. If you ask me, I say long live the choker.

I have not decided if I will make this a monthly installment. I found writing this to be really fun so if you enjoyed reading it, I would love to know in the comments below! Also, if any of these things piqued your interest, I have left links for most of them. 🙂

xx, AE
