Sun’s Out, Fun’s Out

Sun’s Out, Fun’s Out

I cannot remember the last time I experienced a near-full week of warm weather in February in Texas.

I know I am a day late, but my weekend was pretty packed with activities so I was not able to post at my regular time yesterday. It was between 70 and 80 degrees this entire week so I definitely had to take advantage of it. On Saturday, I visited the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden–The Arboretum for short–for the second time in two weeks. Normally, The Arboretum is a $15 admission fee, but until February 24th, admission is only $5!

Initially, the point of this trip was to have a joint photoshoot, but we actually spent most of our time relaxing in the gardens (trying to cool down). It was so peaceful though to sit around and soak in the sun. And we did end up getting some cute pictures!

Yesterday was my dad’s birthday so my family and I started the day by going to the Meyerson Symphony Center to hear Pines of Rome played by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. This was my first time sitting in the chorus and it was a much different experience. I actually prefer it because you can see the expressions of the conductor and, obviously, you are surrounded by the sounds. It was an amazing show!

Following the show, we had a delicious dinner at Ruth’s Chris; my dad wanted to splurge a little bit for his 55th and there were no complaints coming from the rest of us. I had a petite filet with large shrimp and my brother and I shared the lobster mac and cheese.

Overall, I had a really, really great day. I don’t know a lot of people my age who are not music majors that actually enjoy going to listen to an orchestra, so it is nice that I get to share this with my family. Not to mention, I will be dreaming of this meal until I have the grand opportunity to have it again. All in all, it was a solid weekend 🙂

3 Steps in the Right Direction

3 Steps in the Right Direction

We are officially halfway through January and I can’t help but wonder how many of us have gotten off track for our New Year’s Resolutions.

I know I have which has inspired me to write a three-step “cheat sheet,” if you will, for ways to achieve your new-year-goals. I think we can agree that the new year symbolizes a fresh start so naturally, we dive in head-first to try something new, whether it be hitting the gym more or making specific career moves. It is easy the first couple of days when everyone is recharged after the holidays, but once we fall back into routine, everything falls back into routine. So how do we fight this?

Exploring The Fort

Exploring The Fort

I have lived in Texas my whole life and yet, I still can’t believe that it was below freezing with ice on the ground this weekend when it was 80 degrees on Christmas.

Anyway, I decided to do something a little different this weekend and take a drive out west. When you live in Dallas, it’s pretty rare to head towards the other half of DFW unless you are going to TCU. I wanted to see what else Fort Worth, also known as The Fort, had to offer so my friend, Naomi, and I headed to Sundance Square for a few hours this weekend.

16 Lessons from 2016

As the year [finally] comes to a close this weekend, I thought I’d share 16 lessons I learned from 2016:

  1. Adversity comes in many forms.
  2. You can’t please everyone, so follow your own path.
  3. Success is subjective, but not relative.
  4. Support those who support you.
  5. Give without expecting to receive.
  6. Communication is still key even in confrontation.
  7. Show your friends and family you appreciate them.
  8. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.
  9. Embrace vulnerability.
  10. Continue to be kind, but don’t let others take advantage of your kindness.
  11. Life hardly goes according to plan and that’s okay.
  12. Letting go, in every way, is healthy and necessary.
  13. Relationships change because people change, but change is good.
  14. Personal growth is a cycle, so soak in the sunshine and weather the storms.
  15. Say yes more.
  16. The longest relationship you’ll ever be in is with yourself–cater to it.

I hope everyone had a happy holiday and please be safe this New Year’s Eve.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
