It Doesn’t Rain in Southern California

Ever since I got back to L.A., the weather has been so weird. It’s hard to believe that in the last two weeks, hot days have been a rarity like today. Believe it or not, it actually rained this week! It was brief and more sprinkling than raining, but water was actually falling from the sky, y’all. I have to say that though I’ve been looking forward to wearing summer clothes in the famous L.A. heat, I’ve appreciated the cooler weather that’s come with all of the overcast. (Mind you, cooler weather means the 70’s) Not to mention, the overcast of course makes me think of London. Speaking of London, another thing I can’t believe is that this past Wednesday, it marked a full month since we left. A huge reminder of that is the fact that my spending habits have hardly changed since I’ve been back *nervous laughter*, but it’s all been in efforts toward exploring L.A. I feel that if I can’t be where I truly want to be right now, the least I can do is make the most of where I am.

It has taken a long time for me to fall in love with L.A. and I think I’ve pretty much solidified the idea that L.A. represents more of a vacation location than a home for me, but I can’t say it hasn’t been cool to say I lived in this city that so many dream about. A couple weeks back, when I first arrived, I hit the beach with my friends Ben and Leo as a send-off for Ben before he relocates to Japan. It was overcast that day as well so not as much fun in the sun as we’d hoped for, but how can a beach be anything but relaxing? That night we had dinner and followed up with dessert at an ice cream place I’d never been to called Salt & Straw. I had the Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and it was delicious, as expected. It was a very sweet day. 😉

This past Friday, I checked out Casey’s Irish Pub downtown with my friend Anna, and I can already see myself as a regular. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s a pub, but it’s not quite a bar either. I loved the atmosphere, however, as it offered an outdoor patio space which is my absolute favorite thing for socializing. It was the perfect way to wind down after the work week. To continue the festivities, I spent the entire day yesterday shopping with my friend Cynthia. I probably shouldn’t have gone shopping in the interest of my bank account, but I got all the essential items. To conclude the weekend, I watched Jurassic World in theaters and I understand now why it gained over half a billion dollars. It was action-packed, violent, loud, funny, and, most importantly, it put me in my childhood feels. Definitely recommend! It’s difficult trying to decide between regaining sleep and energy and going out and exploring, but it is summer after all. In the spirit of summer, however, I should probably put these two jobs to use and regain the funds I lost abroad, haha.
Note to self: find cheap(er) things to do in L.A.!
