Where Magic Happens

Where Magic Happens

This past Friday, I embarked on a magical journey to Disneyland with my friend, Kelley, with a little detour to the Anaheim Packing District as well. We started out the day bright and early and headed over in the midst of a bit of rain. As we got into the park, however, it of course cleared up and the fun immediately began. The weather was quite odd the entire day, actually. Standing in line for Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, I took off my jacket every time I was in the sun and immediately put it back on when I was in the shade, so it was one of those kind of days.
The first part of the day, we just walked around taking photos and we rode a couple of the kiddie rides like Snow White’s Scary Adventure before heading out for lunch outside of the park. Continue reading “Where Magic Happens”

What Happens in Vegas…

As I finished classes this week, it felt as though my break immediately started. I had the amazing privilege of attending a special event on campus on Thursday night called “Ain’t I a Woman?: An Evening with Laverne Cox.” I have been a huge fan of Laverne Cox since the premiere of Orange is the New Black. Since then, her activism in the trans community–especially the black trans community–has only made my love for her grow exponentially. At this talk, she spoke about her life and her transition into becoming a woman and it was so incredible to hear about her experiences, good and bad. The most remarkable and unfortunate part was gaining a grasp on how she actually had a better experience than many trans people in our society, even after learning some of the gruesome details of her teenage years. What struck me most was hearing about how she still struggles with issues of self-esteem today because of the trauma of her life and how that fuels her to continue pushing for more equal rights. It was a really inspiring night and I am so glad that I was able to attend. Continue reading “What Happens in Vegas…”

Five Seconds of Summer

Five Seconds of Summer

So just to clarify, I did not see 5SOS in concert nor did I meet them, but I am referencing how these last couple of weeks have felt as I’ve finished interning and have officially brought summer to a close. To believe that I will be starting my last first day of school tomorrow is equally terrifying and exciting, but I know it will be a great semester ahead 🙂 Continue reading “Five Seconds of Summer”

Save Me, San Francisco

Save Me, San Francisco

Disclaimer: long post, but lots of pictures!

After four years of living in California, I finally made it up to NorCal. Last weekend I visited the infamous San Francisco and I was head over heels in love. The moment I went across Bay Bridge Friday morning, I was already in awe of how beautiful the city was. Maybe it was the architecture, maybe it was the fact that I got all of two hours of sleep during that eight hour bus ride, or maybe I was partial towards the overcast, but I was very optimistic about my trip. For some background on why I was in San Francisco, I had no actual reason for being there. I simply wanted to go, found an open weekend, and had a very courteous friend, Ricardo, offer me a place to stay so I bought a bus ticket and made my way up. Continue reading “Save Me, San Francisco”
