The Miscommunication of Alexa Edwards

If you recognize that loose play-on-words, we can be friends.

Disclaimer: This is a long one.

I have been back and forth in my head about whether or not I should post about this, but in many ways I feel like I have to. Why was I so MIA this summer? Why did I only publish a couple of blog posts while I was abroad for eight weeks? Why didn’t I share any of my writing from my internship? Well, I’ll try to sum it up as succinctly as I can.

This intern abroad program was not what I expected and, in many ways, was falsely advertised. From the housing to my initial internship experience, I was extremely disappointed and unhappy. On Monday, we had orientation and it was unlike any orientation I have attended before. Of course, we did go through a lot of general and company information, but the order of events really kept us alert. We played games, watched a hilarious video of the history of Southwest and we were able to spend time with our supervisors to get acclimated before the first “real day” of work. Before–and since–I started my internship, I have received a series of questions from friends and family about the specifics, so I figured that I should dedicate this post to answering those questions: Continue reading “Welcome Aboard!”

Staying Ahead

Happy Sunday, y’all! Now that “syllabus week” is over, I thought I’d shoot out some [unsolicited] advice about beating senioritis, or general second semester laziness for those who are not graduating just yet. While in the long run grades arguably don’t mean much, for some it really counts so it’s important to develop smart habits at the beginning of the semester. For those who have already settled their post-grad plans, however, I hope these tips will encourage you to at least stay organized in your general daily tasks. Being organized just makes you feel great and really boosts your productivity, so here are seven tips for staying ahead of yourself: Continue reading “Staying Ahead”
